xylem

Xylem's attributes are comfort, versatility, simplicity for multiple production, and respect for the raw materials themselves. Ergonomics was a major determiner of the design, as angles and heights were considered extensively to maximize comfort. Xylem was designed in a way to deviate from the norms of the furniture design process by considering frame and upholstery simultaneously. Designing with each element in mind from the very start raised unique challenges.

The upholstery design is an image of a cherry tree that was distorted and woven into a design which engages the user to visualize different objects in the design, similar to a Rorschach. Even though the fabric is a key element in this piece, the chair is not dependent on it. Even with a subdued, neutral fabric, you will still have an elegant piece.
